PILO’s senior team members consist of legal and medical professionals, who combine excellent domestic and international qualifications with years of valuable experience at large international law firms, banks, as well as large research universities and hospitals in the USA, Canada and Thailand. Members have a passion for their work, a love of learning, and are committed to providing, whenever possible, tailored solutions that create long-term value for our clients. Below are some of the senior members of the PILO team.

EDWARD THIRAVEJ PLOYSONGSANG, PARTNER

Edward is a corporate and commercial lawyer with expertise in issues affecting a broad range of industries. He combines over twenty years of experience in Thailand working at Deacons (now known as PriceSanond), DLA Piper and in private practice together with US qualifications to provide workable, legal solutions that create long-term value for businesses and investors.

Edward has performed substantial legal work for mostly large businesses including Enron, Shell, Dana, Toyota, AstraZeneca, Lilly, Microban, P.T. Teknix Capital, FedEx, Itochu, Sumitomo, Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance, J.W. Marriott, Club Med, Tony Roma’s, Standard Chartered Bank, SGS, Telecomm Asia and subsequently True. He also completed major projects for various governments, and the international banks such as ADB and the World Bank.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree – completing an honors biology/premed curriculum – from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He went on to complete his Master of Regional Planning degree from Cornell University, his Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, a top-tier US law school, and his Executive Master of Business Administration with Beta Gamma Sigma honors from the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. Edward also attended law school at Temple University (US), University College London (UK), and business school at the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University. At Cornell, he served as an Articles Editor for Colloqui: Cornell Journal of Planning and Urban Issues, and as an Associate of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. At Temple Law, a school renowned for its trial advocacy and legal writing programs, he competed in the I. Herman Stern Moot Court Competition, and won a coveted spot on the Temple Political and Civil Rights Law Review.

Edward is licensed to practice law in New York and before the US Court of International Trade, US Court of Federal Claims, US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the US Tax Court and the US Supreme Court.

He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK & Thailand Association) and Mensa International. Formerly, he served as a consultant and contributor to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lawyers Council of Thailand. There, he co-published over 120 short articles namely describing Anglo-American common law, and even Sharia law, and sometimes offering comparisons with Thai civil law.

MANUTTSAK KHAMCHAY, SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Manuttsak works as a senior litigator and legal consultant in our Office. He graduated with his Bachelor of Laws from The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and has worked as a litigator for over fifteen years. His career has exposed him to many areas of Thai law including criminal law.

Before joining PILO, Manuttsak worked as an independent litigator starting in 2005. Earlier, he worked as a litigator for Sak & Associates Law Office Co., Ltd., and was a law clerk at Asia Commercial Asset Management Public Co., Ltd. (now a bank). He is extensively experienced in various kinds of civil and criminal litigation including corporate law, family law, financial fraud, labor law and tort law to name just a few. Vigorously representing clients before the courts has always been a strong source of pride for him.

Manuttsak is able to litigate in all courts throughout Thailand as a licensed member of the Lawyers Council of Thailand. As a very experienced litigator, his strategic thinking, negotiation, mediation, litigation, interviewing, and Thai language skills are formidable.

PROFESSOR YONGYUDH PLOYSONGSANG, MEDICAL CONSULTANT

Professor Yongyudh has taught clinical medicine for over forty-five years, and has been practicing medicine in Thailand, the United States and Canada for over fifty years.

He is a proud graduate of Assumption College in Bangkok graduating first in his class from the French Section (Class Valedictorian). He later went on to earn his Medical Doctor Degree with Honors, graduating second in his class (Class Salutatorian), from the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, as well as earning a Doctor of Science degree requiring coursework and a dissertation from the University of Cincinnati in the United States.

Professor Yongyudh is licensed to practice medicine in Thailand and the US. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Pulmonary Disease and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He also completed Fellowships in Pulmonary Disease at the University of Cincinnati and subsequently elected a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Physicians.

Throughout most of his career, he has served as a Professor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine and has co-authored over 100, peer-reviewed academic papers and abstracts. He has also acted as a reviewer for many Journals including the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chest, the Journal of Applied Physiology, Respiration, Respiration Physiology, and Southern Medical Journal to name several. He was also a Visiting Professor of Medicine at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec completing two separate sabbaticals there.

Professor Yongyudh’s special clinical interests include all aspects of clinical pulmonary diseases, namely lung cancer, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, sleep medicine, intensive care medicine, bronchoscopy and laser surgery, brachytherapy, stenting, and lung transplantation. In addition, he has decades of experience consulting with physicians in other practice areas, and has a sizeable network of expert consultants in various medical and related fields.

Professor Yongyudh is fluent in English and Thai, and can still speak some French and Teochew Chinese.

DR. SUNANTHA SRISUBUT-PLOYSONGSANG, MEDICAL CONSULTANT

Dr. Sunantha has practiced and taught radiology as well as radiation therapy for over forty-five years having practiced medicine in Thailand, the United States and Canada.

She is a graduate of Triam Udom Suksa, one of the premier secondary schools in Thailand, and later went on to earn her Medical Doctor degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

Dr. Sunantha is licensed to practice medicine in the Thailand and the US. She began her medical career studying pathology for one year before switching to therapeutic radiology and eventually becoming board certified by the American Board of Therapeutic Radiology. Before returning to Thailand she practiced in private practice at The Christ Hospital on Mount Auburn in Cincinnati for twenty years, and served five of those years as the acting Director of the Department of Radiation Medicine.

During her time in the US, she served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine. She taught radiation therapy to other physicians as well as allied health care professionals including radiation therapy technicians and nurses. Her special clinical interests include all areas of therapeutic radiology, especially prostate cancer, and organ conservation treatment for cancer.
